His father was a socialist and a blacksmith. His forces took control of it in 1936. When the Germans attacked the Soviet Union, Mussolini decided to send in Italian troops to support the invasion. The new party often clashed with government authorities as well as with the socialists. He created a secret police force called the OVRA.
Mussolini also sent his forces to attack the British in Africa. It is a feeling, not a reality. He ruled this part of Italy under German control for two years. This need for approval was kept secret so the public thought they still had a free press.
Mussolini also began to turn his eye towards foreign conquest. The King of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele III, decided to let Mussolini form a government.
Unfortunately for him, he was arrested by the Italian soldiers and was executed for his crimes in April 1945. In his diary, Mussolini sets himself up as an important, charismatic leader but he actually served in quiet safe areas. Mussolini and his mistress tried to reach Milan so that he could escape on a plane to Austria. Members of the Fascist Party were known to be violent towards those who disagreed with their ideas.
Newspaper editors were personally chosen by Mussolini and all reporters needed to be approved by the state. Mussolini's father was a blacksmith and didn't want the church to interfere in government matters.
Before becoming a politician, Mussolini worked as a newspaper editor. He attacked Greece, but his army failed to conquer it.
The oppositions response was weak and on January 3, 1925, Mussolini gave a speech were he accepted all responsibility for the violence and proclaimed a dictatorship.

Mussolini took control of the press and used his secret police to silence all dissent. He immediately returned to Switzerland and another attempt to deport him was blocked by socialists in the Swiss government.
