It’s not about making money.
If you love it more than anything and you want to be part of it, then you find your particular niche or your way of dealing with it. Maybe it’s my fantasy. That’s the whole thrust, and not many people can do it. It’s intuitive. You know, somehow I just started racking my brain about, “What do I like?” Where was I?
What made me excited? Experiments were made in both the Nationale-Nederlanden Building (1999) in Prague and Der Neue Zollhof (1999), a trio of waterfront towers in Dusseldorf, Germany. What is the social relevance of this? You have had ups and downs, as successful as you are.

You make it all sound pretty daunting.
Frank Gehry: It’s an awesome thing to come out and look for a way to make a living, and to get into the world.
He’d make up funny songs.
He famously designed the Walt Disney Concert Hall. It becomes an evolution of thought and ideas. There was none. The sheer joy in his exuberant forms was never contested, and even his critics credited the work for bringing popular attention to the profession. The building was developed by Forest City Ratner, designed by Gehry Architects and WSP Cantor Seinuk Structural Engineers, and constructed by Kreisler Borg Florman.
It contains a public elementary school owned by the Department of Education.
There’s Jay up there. How important it is, I don’t know. And the artists were making things. So if critics did their homework, then we could have a real discussion. It’s a kind of bureaucratic nonsense. I have a lot of talent here in the club, so to speak, and I get a lot of support from them.
