The New Release: 12 Years: My Messed-up Love Story
Now, Bhagat is back with his upcoming novel,12 Years: My Messed-up Love Story, published by HarperCollins. The book’s massive success proved that stories written in simple, accessible English could still be powerful.
He later got married to Anusha Suryanarayanan in 1998; she was his fellow student at IIM-A. He is also a good columnist and writes columns for many leading newspapers. Starting out as an engineer from IIT Delhi and later an MBA graduate from IIM Ahmedabad, Bhagat seemed destined for a high-flying corporate career. This book was made into a movie and was named 'Hello' and Chetan himself wrote the script.
And with 12 Years, it looks like he is ready to connect with yet another generation of readers.

• Back in 2011, Bhagat took a dig at Infosys chairman, N R Narayana Murthy, with the following tweet:
• At the Annual Rendezvous 2014 festival of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Delhi, Chetan Bhagat made a comment that did not go down well with some people and media outlets.
It is named 'Three Mistakes of My Life'. Deep down they know that Hindi-speaking Hindus are among India's poorest."
• In 2018, during the MeToo campaign, a girl named Anusha shared a few WhatsApp screenshots that indicated that Chetan Bhagat was flirting with her.
• In November 2022, while speaking at a literary event organised by a media house, Chetan Bhagat attracted controversy when he mentioned Indian social media star Urfi Javed's name while asserting that youth were spending a lot of time on Instagram.
What’s interesting is how many of his novels went beyond the page—3 Idiots, Kai Po Che!, 2 States, and Half Girlfriend were all adapted into blockbuster films. Chetan then went to Hong Kong along with his family and worked as an investment banker with Goldman Sachs. His ability to tell everyday stories in a language that feels natural has brought millions into the habit of reading.
He said, "Phone has been a great distraction for the youth, especially the boys, spending hours just watching Instagram Reels. All of them were bestsellers since their release and have been filmed by famous Bollywood directors. Chetan Bhagat also a found himself place in the Time magazine's list of "World's 100 Most Influential People" in the year 2010.
He is also a motivational speaker, screenplay writer, Youtuber and podcaster.
Chetan quit his international investment banking career to devote his entire time to writing and make change happen in the country.
