Charity Caught By Religious Beliefs
Madhubala’s charitable donations, including substantial sums to relief funds and children’s charities, sparked controversy in 1950 due to her religious beliefs.
Her father, Ataullah Khan, worked at the Imperial Tobacco Company but soon lost his job, which shifted the family’s fortunes and direction. After her father’s dismissal in 1940, the family shifted to Mumbai in search of hope and survival. They initially resided near Bombay Talkies, a prominent film studio, in the Kandivali/Malad suburb.
The cemetery authorities cited Islamic law prohibiting the construction of elaborate memorials as the reason. Dilip Kumar also testified against Madhubala and her father in the court in favour of Chopra.

Note: According to sources, Madhubala's parents had 11 children, four boys and seven girls; however, the boys couldn't survive.

Madhubala passed away on February 23, 1969, nine days after her 36th birthday, due to complications from her heart condition.
The Funeral
Madhubala was buried in the Juhu Muslim Cemetery in Santacruz, Bombay. They starred together in several films, including ‘Sangdil’ and ‘Amar’.
They lived in cramped quarters, with finances perpetually stretched. Her iconic role as Anarkali in ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ solidified her status as a legendary actress.
