Who is Martin Garrix?

Martin Garrix, born Martijn Gerard Garritsen on May 14, 1996, in Amstelveen, Netherlands, is a world-renowned Dutch DJ, music producer, and electronic dance music (EDM) pioneer.

“I was making all my music in my bedroom at my parents’ house and when I made Animals I had no idea what was about to happen,” Garrix told GQ.

“Then the songs started to be played worldwide and it was all very unreal for me.”

Garrix has revealed how he attended Belgium’s Tomorrowland festival in 2013 as a fan and heard some of his favourite DJs play his own song. ‘’I was watching the Olympics in 2004 with Tiesto opening the event which inspired me to do what I do today.

With millions of fans worldwide, chart-topping tracks, and boundary-pushing performances, Garrix’s impact on the EDM scene is both undeniable and enduring.

Martin Garrix has risen to global stardom in pop as well as electronic circles –and yet he’s far from being done.

“It was the biggest thing,” Garrix told MTV. “My mum literally pulled me in front of the TV. One day later, I ran to the CD store and I bought ‘Parade of the Athletes’ and [thought], ‘Wow, I want to do this too’.”

Garrix has also cited the likes of Australian DJ Flume and Scottish producer Calvin Harris as some of the artists to have inspired him the most in recent years.
