This association saw him branch off into several other collaborations and involvements with a variety of artists over the years, until eventually Neyi released his long awaited solo Gospel album ‘ Excited’, in 2001 featuring renowned musician, Concorde Nkabinde and Jazz Duo ‘ Tsunami’
Following the success of ‘Excited’ Neyi went on to release his 2nd a and 3rd album ‘ Ena ke Nako’.

He won the Best Male Artist Award at the Crown Gospel Awards (2014) and the Best Gospel Song Award at the Metro FM Music Awards (2015). On this project Neyi continued to release hits like, Midomo ke eo, Sinenqaba, Miracle & Jehova Re Tshepile Wena. Zimu died on Wednesday 4th of December 2019 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital’s Zakithi Nkosi Haematology Centre for Excellence, where he had been undergoing chemotherapy for mycosis fungiodes – a rare blood disorder affecting his skin.
Another message, however, said he passed away at a hospital in Modderfontein.
His illness became public after his friends and colleagues called for prayers, with prayer meetings being held in his honour.
His friend Omega Khunou paid tribute to him at the Spiritual Awakening Concert held at Sun City a few weeks back.
At the time, the Economic Freedom Fighters paid a visit to Zimu at the hospital and announced that he had been “recovering well”.
Condolences have been pouring in for the pastor, who was known for his hit songs Lamb of God and Retshepile Wena.

Zimu’s breakthrough came in 2001 when he released his debut album “Excited”. The album sold over 100,000 copies and earned him several awards.

Neyi Zimu was a multi-award-winning artist who received several accolades for his outstanding contribution to the music industry.
The album was a huge success and featured hit songs such as “Modimo Ke O”, “Jeso Rato La Hao” and “Ufanelwe”. Neyi wrote and performed the award winning song Jehova Re Tshepile Wena on Spirit of Praise Vol 6.
In 2017 January 20 Neyi recorded his very first live DVD at the World of Yamaha title The Waiting Is Over.
