Increasingly, I have been and will be encouraging westerners to embody these traditions as a testimony to the indigenous capacity to assert itself with dignity in the face of modernity. Somé held three Master’s degrees and two Doctorates from the Sorbonne and Brandeis University. Please view our website to see the dates and times of upcoming programs that will be offered as we move forward.

Calendar of Events:
The calendar of events features upcoming events and programs that are scheduled.
Toward that end, I offer the wisdom of the African ancestors so that Westerners might find the deep healing they seek.
The spark of this ancestral flame, which I have brought to the land of the stranger, is now burning brightly. The indigenous spirit in each of us is calling for cleansing and reconciliation. “It is always challenging to bring the spiritual into the material world, but it is one of the only ways we can put people back in touch with the earth and their inner values.”
Support Wisdom Spring
Wisdom Spring, Inc.
is a non-profit organization, which uplifts, honors and preserves the wisdom of indigenous cultures through programs of education, travel, cultural, community and scientific exchange.
Since its inception, we’ve been working diligently to provide various villages in West Africa with drinking water and to provide resources for education through its various programs including Art for Africa and Walking for Water.
Meet Sobonfu
Sobonfu’s classes, workshops and fundraising events are a great way to meet Sobonfu and learn about her traditions.
His wish is that his programs will continue to be held and the wisdom that he shared—-passed on. Her most recent, Falling Out of Grace: Meditations on Loss, Healing and Wisdom, offers insight and guidance through this often dark territory.

Programs that have been brought to the West by Elder Malidoma:
The programs detailed here are some of those most often requested. His life story, his presence and his radiant smile will always be a source of inspiration and guidance for me.
In gratitude for

A Life of Service and Power
Malidoma was a West African writer, diviner, and teacher.
He was placed in a Catholic boarding school, where he lived for the next 15 years, enduring “years of physical and emotional abuse from the priests, who were determined to create another black priest.” This began a life of power, service and ongoing hardship.
Please consider subscribing to our monthly Newsletter. If you are unfamiliar with his teachings, I highly recommend any of his books.
Here is the official announcement of his passing.

Sobonfu’s Mission
Destined from birth to teach the ancient wisdom, ritual and practices of her ancestors to those in the West, Sobonfu, whose name means “keeper of the rituals” travels the world on a healing mission sharing the rich spiritual life and culture of her native land Burkina Faso, which ranks as one of the world’s poorest countries yet one of the richest in spiritual life and custom.
Dagara rituals involve healing and preparing the mind, body, spirit and soul to receive the spirituality that is all around us.
This is an inspiring and convenient way to stay updated about upcoming opportunities for connection, ritual and empowerment.
Please be aware that dates, times and locations on the calendar may be updated periodically.
African wisdom, so long held secret, is being called on to provide tools to enable us to move into a more peaceful and empowered way of being, both within ourselves, and within our communities. The ancestors are responding”. In this way the ancestors will know that this medicine has found a true home- that it is more than an honored guest.
At this critical time in history, the earth’s people are awakening to a deep need for global healing.
They put you in touch with your inner values, help you reach a deeper part of yourself, and show you what it is like to be supported by community.

Malidoma – “to make friends with the stranger”
Malidoma Patrice Somé Phd., West African Elder, author and teacher, as representative of his village in Burkina Faso, West Africa, came to the west to share the ancient wisdom and practices which have supported his people for thousands of years.
For more than thirty years, Elder Malidoma shared the Wisdom of his Ancestors and tribal Elders: the Dagara Cosmology, and awakened a deep knowing in the hearts and bones of those who have recognized in his name, his books, his voice, and the Spirit world inviting the renewal of a deep and abiding relationship with all beings on Earth.
Elder Malidoma is the author of several books, including Ritual: Power, Healing and Community, Of Water and The Spirit: Ritual, Magic and Initiation in the Life of an African Shaman, and The Healing Wisdom of Africa: Finding Life Purpose through Nature, Ritual, and Community.
