When Uriah refused to go home out of loyalty to his fellow soldiers, David arranged his death in battle:

“Set Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck down and die.”
(2 Samuel 11:15)

This tragic chain of events shows how sin multiplies when unchecked.

The angel Gabriel announced to Mary:

“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. Through struggle, he earned their loyalty, giving them hope and ownership. 

David also relied on prayer and spiritual guidance. That city had remained unconquered for centuries, resisting Israel’s military.

God often prepares His servants in obscurity before bringing them into public view.

David the Shepherd

Before the throne came the pasture. This attitude was evident in many of his psalms, particularly in Psalm 51. David returned to tending sheep, a task that seemed small but was shaping his character.

The people sang his praises, and Saul brought him into his court. This covenant is foundational to the Messianic hope, as it is fulfilled in Jesus Christ, a descendant of David (2 Samuel 7:12-16). David saw a woman, Bathsheba, bathing, and committed adultery with her. He saved God’s people and became a major redemptive figure in God’s story. 

King David was ancient Israel’s second king (c.

But God directed Samuel to find David and not to look at the outside. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. The Old Testament ends with this promise unfulfilled, still waiting for the promised Son of David. 

The Gospels announce Jesus as the fulfillment of the Davidic Covenant. Goliath was mocking the God of Israel, and David’s faith burned with holy indignation.

David’s Faith and Saul’s Doubt

When David volunteered to fight, Saul tried to dissuade him, pointing out his youth and inexperience.

David grieved and mourned as a father and a king (2 Samuel 18:33). Composer of many Psalms and recipient of God’s Davidic covenant, David is a key ancestor of Jesus. Christ declared the now and future arrival of the Kingdom of God, and he invites salvation into that kingdom through his death and resurrection. Known for his deep faith, military prowess, and poetic contributions, David is a central figure in the history of Israel and a key ancestor of Jesus Christ.

Early Life:
David was the youngest son of Jesse, a Bethlehemite of the tribe of Judah.

When she became pregnant from the encounter, David organized the death of her husband, Uriah, to cover up his sin (2 Samuel 11). He was pursued by his own father-in-law and leader for a long time. Through the prophet Nathan, God spoke these words to David:

“Go and tell My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: Would you build a house for Me to dwell in?
