Excommunication of Martin Luther
In 1520, Martin Luther was excommunicated for refusing to recant 41 sentences from his writings.

On June 15th the pope issued a bull (Exsurge Domini – Arise O'Lord) threatening Luther with excommunication. May God help me.” Amen.”
