“I champion being Filipino, but I don’t feel the need to be ‘good for a Filipino.’ I’m just good.”
His goal is simple: to be the best he can be, and in doing so, to pave the way for more Filipino creatives to rise to the top without being seen as ‘other.’ “I hope to be good enough that it opens the door for more artists like myself.”
If there’s one lesson August has learned over the years, it’s that the path to success is rarely linear.
“I started out wanting to be an R&B solo act, and now I’m writing for Korean artists,” he laughs.
His journey proves that success can come in unexpected forms, and it’s often the detours that lead to the most fulfilling destinations.
In the coming years, he’s determined to balance writing for global stars with releasing his own projects.
“There’s so much more music I want to share with the world, and this time, I want to be the voice behind it.”
