Teodorico Quirós Alvarado
Nació en San José en 1897, el mismo año en que abre sus puertas la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes y se inaugura el Teatro Nacional.
He painted with a strong emphasis on colour in the academic, mannerist (costumbrista) style introduced by the Spaniard Tomás Povedano in the early 20th century. Durante su periodo, introdujo cambios importantes en los planes de estudio, tales como el dibujo de la figura humana natural y la pintura al aire libre.
Teodorico Quirós creó una importante obra pictórica del paisaje nacional, la cual le ha otorgado un lugar en la historia del arte costarricense.

He began his formal education at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes as a child, followed by the Colegio Seminario secondary school. Costa Rican painter, printmaker, architect, and engineer Teodorico Quiros was born in San Jose, Costa Rica on August 28, 1897. Murió el 27 de junio de 1977, después de haber recibido el Premio Magón-el más importante galardón que concede el país- por su aporte a la cultura.
