Assassination

He was a captain in the Black Hawk War, spent eight years in the Illinois legislature, and rode the circuit of courts for many years. Douglass was in favour of allowing the extension of slavery – if citizens voted for it. Drawing on decades of research and a wealth of primary sources, Donald presents a nuanced view of Lincoln as a complex and deeply human individual.
