On the personal front, I am a resident of Northridge with my husband, John Wujack, who is a great asset to me and the university.
She served two full 4-year terms as former California Governor Jerry’s Brown appointee on the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, having been initially appointed in 2011 and serving in 2014 as chair of the Commission. I have been volunteering in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley for the last 5 years since my arrival at California State University, Northridge (CSUN).
How long have you been volunteering for The Valley Economic Alliance?
I have been volunteering for The Valley Economic Alliance (TVEA) for about 5 years.
She served two full 4-year terms as former California Governor Jerry’s Brown appointee on the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE), having been initially appointed in 2011 and serving in 2014 as chair of the Commission, and in 2020 was appointed to WICHE's Interstate Passport Task Force. Harrison currently serves on the Northern California Public Broadcasting Board of Directors, National Steinbeck Center Board of Directors, MoreHealth Board of Directors, the United Way of Monterey County Campaign Cabinet, the California State University, Board of Trustees' Statewide Strategic Planning Steering Committee, the Women's Commission of the American Council on Education, and the International Committee of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
She was chair of the Professional Development Committee and convener for the Women Presidents/Chancellors Group of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. A former member of the NCAA Board of Governors and the Division I Board of Directors, her current appointments at the NCAA include service on the NCAA Division I Committee on Academics and the NCAA Board of Governors' Committee to Promote Cultural Diversity and Equity.

Why do you continue to be a member of The Valley Economic Alliance?
I am a member of TVEA because their mission to advance the economic vitality and stability of the region is closely aligned with CSUN’s commitment to serve the community. Known for her commitment to students, academic excellence and strategic leadership, President Harrison has a reputation for building strong partnerships with public and private organizations, enabling students, faculty and staff to cross institutional boundaries and engage in innovative instruction.

I am equally passionate and vocal about sustainability because I believe it is important for everyone to be good stewards of our communities and resources. Dianne F. Harrison is the fifth president of California State University, Northridge and began her appointment in June 2012. My academic discipline is social work, which is a people oriented profession that uses persuasion, problem solving, communication skills, collaboration, advocacy, and community engagement to get the job done.

What is one of your Passion Projects that you are working on?
Though CSUN has several key planning goals that serve to focus the university’s efforts, the top priority that drives all our efforts and priorities is student success.
Harrison currently serves on the board of the American Council on Education (ACE) and Second Nature, and is vice chair of the board of the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities (USU). A recent report found that CSUN has an economic impact of nearly $1.9 billion, led to the creation of more than 11,700 jobs, and that the presence of CSUN has created substantial economic value, increasing output and adding a large number of primarily middle-income jobs in Los Angeles County and across the state.
A prolific researcher and writer, Dr. Harrison has published dozens of articles and two books.
Recognized for her leadership and service in higher education and other fields, Dr. Harrison has served on boards and committees of over 65 national, state, and local organizations and community projects. For example, engagement in workforce development is critical.
She was a presidential participant in the Fulbright-Hayes Seminars Abroad Program to Jordan and Oman, and most recently completed the Fulbright International Education Administrators Seminar in France.
