Princess Lalla Amina (8 April 1954 – 16 August 2012) was a member of the Moroccan royal family and former President of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Equestrian Sports.
Early life and education
Lalla Amina was born in Antsirabe, Madagascar on 8 April 1954.
Lalla Amina was President of the Moroccan Royal Federation of Equestrian Sports from 1999 up until her death in 2012. Lalla Amina lived in a separate villa to be raised more normally and away from court intrigue and jealousy. She was a member of the honorary committee of the global movement of mothers, Honorary President of the Hadaf Association for the protection of disabled persons and also chaired the Moroccan Association for promoting arts for the disabled.
“HRH Princess Lalla Amina was a wonderfully generous person who always put the needs of others first,” FEI President HRH Princess Haya said.
Her funeral prayers were performed after Al Asr prayer at the Ahl Fez mosque on 17 August 2012. The vacuum she leaves will be impossible to fill, and we will all miss her terribly.
“Everyone that had the chance to know and work with her in the equestrian world are devastated by her passing. In 1980, she set up a private breeding stable in Sidi Brini and launched the famous Week of the Horse held in Rabat.
Mina (as she was nicknamed) was the only child of King Mohammed V of Morocco to have French papers .

Death and funeral
Laila Amina died after a four month battle with lung cancer in Rabat on 16 August 2012. As well as riding and breeding horses, she was actively involved in equestrian sport as well.

An emblematic figure in Moroccan equestrian sports and President of the Federation since 1999, HRH Princess Lalla Amina was a devoted and accomplished equestrian.
President of the Moroccan league for Child Protection, HRH Princess Lalla Amina was a strong advocate for children’s rights throughout her life and worked tirelessly on national legislation and the harmonisation with international laws and conventions.
Al-Wazani died early on allowing Lalla Amina to pursue true “reason for living”– horses.

Throughout her life she was an avid hunter and equestrian. She was a truly remarkable woman.”
Chairperson for Special Olympics Morocco, Princess Lalla Amina was elected the first African sport leader for the global movement that aims to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and friendship.
In 2004, Princess Lalla Amina was awarded a Special Olympics International prize.
She was elected president of the organising committee of “Horse Week” in Dar Es Salam (Rabat), and was also the coach of the Moroccan national team and a national Jumping judge.
HRH Princess Lalla Amina was pre-deceased by her husband, Moulay Driss El Ouezzani, former president of the Royal Moroccan Equestrian Federation.

“The Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol and Chancellery announces with deep sorrow and great sadness the death, on Thursday evening, 27 Ramadan 1433 Hijri, corresponding to August 16, 2012, of HRH Princess Lalla Amina, daughter of late HM King Mohammed V, sister of late HM King Hassan II, may God rest their souls, and aunt of HM King Mohammed VI, may God assist him and grant him long life, after an illness lasting several months.
In announcing to the Moroccan people the death of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Amina, may God cover her with His Grace and accommodate her in His vast paradise, the Ministry of the Royal House of Protocol and Chancellery implore the Almighty God to preserve His Majesty the King, to grant long life to the Sovereign, to perpetuate His glory, and to grant forgiveness and mercy to the late and patience and solace to the illustrious royal family.
The funeral of the late HRH Princess Lalla Amina, may God rest her soul, will take place tomorrow, Friday, after Al Asr prayer at the Ahl Fes mosque.

Upon the royal family’s return to Morocco, Malika Oufkir, daughter of a favored general, was informally adopted into the Royal family to be a companion to the princess . She was born while the royal family was in exile. Her villa included a private movie theater, a zoo, and her own primary school .
