Background

Hayashi, Dennis W. was born on May 31, 1952 in Los Angeles, California, United States. Yost, Judge Hayashi successfully challenged the constitutionality of a 200-year-old law enforced by the U.S. Coast Guard, which only allows U.S. citizens to fish in Federal waters. His mother’s family grew corn, strawberries, and vegetables on a small farm outside of Los Angeles.

Leach was an Associate at Latham & Watkins LLP from 1998 to 2003 and served as a Law Clerk for the Honorable John G. Davies at the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California from 1997 to 1998.

His father’s parents were farmers on Bainbridge Island off Seattle, Washington. He was Counsel at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld from 2005 to 2011. Leach earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Susanne Fenstermacher.
