When the Spaniards discovered the secret activities and her knowledge of the Katipuneros’ location, she was asked to divulge their hiding place, but subsequently refused. They couldn’t be more wrong, however, because Sora’s shop became an area for soldiers to restock their supplies and weapons, in addition to holding important and secretive meetings.
What has emerged from this single focus is a convincing portrait of the man as a black nationalist. A more complex study of his entire life reveals him to be not only a political figure in this tradition, but also a cultural hero, a global citizen, and a man of deep faith. However, she was highly literate and incredibly intelligent at a young age.
Sora also provided much needed medical care through her skill in medicine and her prayers.
Unfortunately, in August of 1896, Sora’s home was invaded during an important meeting with the Katipunan due to a spy in the Filipino ranks. Besides these details, not much else is known about Aquino’s childhood.
As an adult, Aquino enjoyed life as a farmer, like many other Filipinos at the time. They are Politics (Black Nationalism); Culture (African American Culture and Youth Subcultures); Globalism (Third World, Socialism, and Pan-Africanism); and Faith (Black Religion, Christianity, and Islam).
Besides her intelligence and voice, Aquino was also known throughout her village for her beauty. Aquino became involved with a secret revolutionary society known as the Katipunan, which is the shortened version of their entire name: Kataastaasan Kagalanggalangang Katipunan Ng Mga Anak Ng Bayan (Highest and Most Respected Association of the Sons of the Country).

Tandang Sora returned to the Philippines a national hero after the United States took control of the Philippines from Spain. Additionally, her house frequently harboured secret meetings of the revolutionaries and she thus earned the name “Mother of the Katipunan” or revolution.

Her legacy lives on through her family, who lives mostly in Quezon City.

On the other hand, it contains notable silences on the part of both Malcolm X and Haley that fail to reconcile the inconsistencies, errors of fact, and other problems that are inevitably part of any autobiography. In addition, there are a number of primary source materials from Malcolm X’s life including archival film, speeches, photos, press clipping, FBI documents and a case file on the assassination.
Instead, she is called Tandang Sora, a moniker she received from Filipino soldiers during her time as a Filipina revolutionary. She was fiercely proud of her country and protective of its people. Sora said nothing. In Quezon, there is a district and a road named after her.
