On 9 July 1988 at the East Germany – Italytournament in Neubrandenburg she set a new worldrecord with a throw of 76.80 metres. This was 2.24 metresfurther than the previous record, set by the CzechoslovakianZdenka Šilhavá, and 2.72 metresfurther than the worldrecord for men set by Jürgen Schult 6 June 1986.
During her competitive years she was 1.84 meters tall and weighed 88 kilograms.

Gabriele Reinsch (23 September 1963 in Cottbus) is a Germantrack and field athlete.
In 2005, Alan Nevill of the University of Wolverhampton in the UK and Gregory Whyte of the English Institute of Sport calculated from these trends that men’s middle- and long-distance running times were probably within 3% of the limit imposed by human biology.
Since then, researchers led by Geoffroy Berthelot of the Institute of Biomedical Research and Sports Epidemiology in Paris have extended the analysis to the majority of Olympic track-and-field events.
And peak oxygen consumption for modern elite athletes isn’t much different from measurements taken of top runners in 1937, by researchers at Harvard University’s Fatigue Laboratory.
Still, world records for most track-and-field events continued to be regularly broken throughout of most the 20th century.
She represented East Germany in the 1988 Olympic Games in discus throw.
On 9 July 1988 at the East Germany – Italy tournament in Neubrandenburg she set a new world record with a throw of 76.80 metres (252.0 ft). That was probably due to training regimes that concentrated on the right combination of speed, strength, and endurance for each event — plus the advent of professionalism, which allowed athletes to train harder and to have longer careers.
But statisticians who study the progression of top performances have noticed a levelling off in recent years.

“I think we can find someone who can run the marathon in less than two hours,” Berthelot told BuzzFeed News.
Who is Gabriele Reinsch?
Gabriele Reinsch is a Germantrack and field athlete. In 2015, they concluded that most were at or near the plateau of human performance.
One exception is the men’s marathon, where performances still seem to be steadily improving, and where most of the top 100 times have been set in the last five years.
Reinsch's record still stands (the East German Martina Hellmann had in fact thrown 76.92 metres (252.4 ft) and 78.14 metres (256.4 ft), both on 6 September 1988, but these came in an unofficial event and could not be counted as the world record).
