Stage and Screen Star Robert Horton Passes Away at 91
by BWW News Desk - Mar 18, 2016

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that stage and screen star Robert Norton, known for his roles in WAGON TRAIN (1957), AS THE WORLD TURNS (1956) and A MAN CALLED SHENANDOAH (1965), passed away on March 9, 2016 while in hospice in Encino, Calif.

Even though his hair is now a gorgeous "silver," he still packs plenty of dynamite! Mr. Horton and his lovely wife, Marilynn, now live in Encino, CA.

Robert Horton was often described as "6’ of redheaded dynamite" (though he’s actually a shade over 6’), and we, his loyal fans, certainly agree with that!

This article covers all that you need to know about her. Details about his roles are scarce but this period gave the budding actor experience.

Horton found his true calling in television. So, let’s dive in!

Background

Marilynn (Bradley) Horton was born and raised in Boston, MA. Details of her exact date of birth are unknown.

Education

She attended the New England Conservatory of Music in opera and performed as soloist with the Minneapolis Symphony.

Career

After concerts throughout New England she appeared on Broadway in Pipe Dreams, Ankles Away, Plain and Fancy, and Happy Hunting.

Marilynn started appearing in summer theater throughout the country and met her husband while playing as the female lead in Guys and Dolls at an Ohio theater.

Marilynn Bradley got married to Robert Horton on New Year’s Eve, 31 Dec 1960.

"Little Buck" was the name of the horse he rode early in the Wagon Train series.

Marilynn Bradley: Background, Career, Marriage, and Personal Life

Marilynn Bradley is mostly known as Robert Horton’s wife.

In the 1950s, he played guest spots on such shows as “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” and “The Barbara Stanwyck Show”.

Horton got the role that would define his career in 1957 in the Western epic Wagon Train. The Detroit drama critic, J. Dorsey Callaghan, said of Marilynn's performance in Guys and Dolls: "Marilynn Bradley, as Miss Sarah Brown, charmed her way through the incredible role and won her place in the affections of one and all." Since their marriage, Marilynn limited her professional appearances to performing with her husband in such shows as Brigadoon, Showboat, Carousel, 1776, Kismet, Man of LaMancha, The Odd Couple, Same Time Next Year, 6 Rooms Riv Vu, Under the Yum-yum Tree, Pajama Game, I Do, I Do, and Oklahoma, to name but a few.

Horton did all of his own riding and stunts on most of the "Wagon Train" and "A Man Called Shenandoah" series, and he owned the Appaloosa horse he often rode in both series. His filmography is extensive but he is best known as Flint McCullough in the Western Wagon Train.

His early life was rooted in Los Angeles.

Mr. Horton was appearing in that production while on a break from filming Wagon Train and it was his first musical theater performance. The two don't go together. His character’s charisma, resourcefulness and loyalty made him a television star.

Despite his success on Wagon Train, Horton enjoyed musical theatre. After their marriage, Marilynn has performed only professionally with her husband in shows such as Brigadoon, Showboat, Carousel, 1776, Kismet, Man of LaMancha, the Odd Couple, Same Time Next Year, 6 Rooms Riv Vu, Under The Yum-yum Tree, Pajama Game, I Do, I Do and Oklahoma, to name a few.

Her Husband, Robert Horton

Meade Howard Horton Jr.

was an American actor who made films, television and musical theatre. Horton portrayed scout Flint McCullough for five seasons. Regarding his cars, Mr. Horton said, "I don't show my cars, I drive them. His hobbies include flying and collecting fancy cars. They were married on New Year's Eve, 31 Dec 1960. For this dream he quit the show in 1962.
