Martin and his wife, Nancy Dolman, met during the production of the 1972 musical Godspell where Nancy was an understudy and Martin was an actor.
She was best known for her work on the popular television series Soap in which she portrayed the character Annie Selig Tate from 1980 to 1981. She was Gilda Radner's understudy.

Despite their parents' careers in the limelight, none of their kids followed in their footsteps. While in Los Angeles, the ensemble recorded an album at MGM. In 1972, Martin met actress Nancy Dolman at a Godspell performance in Toronto, and the two fell in love.

Love at first sight
Martin fell for his beloved wife after meeting on a Toronto production of Godspell in 1972.
Two years after their wedding in 1980, she took a backseat in the entertainment industry to take care of her husband and children. They kept a vacation house on Ontario's Lake Rosseau. Biologically, the couple did not birth any kids but they adopted three children: daughter, Katherine in 1983; sons Oliver in 1986, and Henry in 1989.
Nancy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2007 and after a three-year battle with the illness, the actress died in 2010 leaving her husband and children in grief.

Nancy's death
Nancy died of ovarian cancer in 2010 after 30 years of marriage to Martin. Dolman received a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Western Ontario and went to York Mills Collegiate Institute in Toronto for his secondary school education.
