Jordan wrote seven novels based on the adventures of Conan.
However, Jordan's most notable achievement is his epic fantasy series "The Wheel of Time." Consisting of eleven books written by Jordan himself and an additional three books completed by Brandon Sanderson after Jordan's death, the series has garnered critical acclaim and a massive fan following.
"The Wheel of Time" stands out for its vast number of characters and its extensive volume, surpassing even Leo Tolstoy's "War and Peace" in these aspects.
The series spans fourteen books and a prequel novel, with the first volume, The Eye of the World, published in 1990.

James Oliver Rigney Jr. (October 17, 1948 – September 16, 2007), known by his pen name Robert Jordan, was an American author known for his epic fantasy series The Wheel of Time.

Jordan was one of several writers who contributed to the Conan the Barbarian series, with his works considered among the best by fans. Eleven books had been published at the time of his death and Jordan’s widow, Harriet McDougal, has chosen Brandon Sanderson to write the twelfth book and thereby complete the series.
Fantasy authors he enjoyed included: Tad Williams, Robert Holdstock, Raymond E. Feist, Janny Wurts, Barry Hughart, and C. S. Friedman.
Jordan is best known for The Wheel of Time, a sprawling fantasy saga that combines intricate world-building, complex characters, and a richly detailed magic system. His service included two tours of Vietnam where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star and two Vietnamese Gallantry Crosses.
He had (with the help of his older brother) taught himself to read by the age of four and was reading Mark Twain and Jules Verne by five. Jordan was educated at The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina where he gained bachelors in mathematics and physics. A career as a nuclear engineer in the United States Navy followed and it was during this time, in 1977, that Robert Jordan began writing.
Jordan chose the fantasy genre for his The Wheel of Time (the name of which comes from Hindu mythology) series because his believed that it allowed him to explore good and evil, right and wrong, honour and duty without having to having to conform the mainstream belief that these were but two sides to the same coin.

Robert Jordan was born on the 17th of October 1948 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was awarded several honors for his service, including the Distinguished Flying Cross with oak leaf clusters, the Bronze Star with "V" device and oak leaf clusters, and two awards from the Republic of Vietnam.
Following his military service, Jordan worked as a nuclear engineer for the United States Air Force.
His favorite authors included: Robert A. Heinlein, John D. MacDonald, Louis L'Amour, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, and Montaigne. The Path of Daggers (1998)
