Moore had a genuine love for the traditional sounds of the church, but came to appreciate the uprising contemporary form of gospel music as well. Shortly thereafter, he was diagnosed with diabetes, which left him bound to a wheelchair, blind and placed on dialysis. JAMES LESLIE MOORE, SR. PASSED AWAY ON JUNE 7th IN THE YEAR 2000 AT THE AGE OF 44.

HE WAS A DYNAMIC GOSPEL SINGER, SONGWRITER, MUSICIAN AND ORDAINED MINISTER, WHO SUFFERED FROM COMPLICATIONS OF DIABETES, WHICH LEFT HIM BLIND, WHEELCHAIR BOUND AND WITH KIDNEY FAILURE. Other successful albums followed with live In Detroit' and "I Will Trust In The Lord'. on June 13th.

After many chart-topping gospel hits and much noted success in the 1980s and early '90s, Moore soon became a household name among many gospel music listeners. He led congregations in Jackson, TN; Shreveport, LA; and Houston, TX. The best-selling author of over 40 books, including Yes, Lord, I Have Sinned, But I Have Several Excellent Excuses, he also served as minister-in-residence at Highland Park United Methodist Church.

    James' last recording, 'Family And Friends', took place in February 1999 at his Detroit hometown.

    He also gave much acclaim to the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) for the molding of his gospel music career . Moore has also won several awards and accolades, which include a Stellar Award for Best Male Solo Performance, a Grammy Nomination, Dove Award Recipient, and several awards from the GMWA.

    A memorial service for the gospel giant took place in Detroit at Bailey Cathedral C.O.G.I.C. Moore's last recording, entitled "Family and Friends, Live in Detroit" was recorded in the summer of 1999 in his hometown of Detroit, with some of his dearest industry friends and gospel notables, such as Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Rudolph Stanfield, and Darius Twyman.

    In turn, the Mississippi Mass Choir reciprocated to perform on Rev James Moore's album live With The Mississippi Mass Choir", another number one hit. The same year he recorded his first album, 'I Thank You Master', for Savoy. The 44 year old, Detroit-born singer passed away at the Methodist Central Hospital. THEN HE LOST A BATTLE WITH PNEUMONIA.
