Von Wiegand came from a family of Theosophists, and later became a pupil of George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff (1866-1949), although she described herself at the same time as a Marxist. Inspired by his new surroundings within the American metropolis, his late paintings show a new energy and complexity of composition as evidenced in Broadway Boogie-Woogie (1943). He began producing "lozenge" paintings (as early as 1919) in order to create a more vibrant tension on the picture plane. The town in his honor unveiled a sculpture of him in 2006.

Mondrian referred in his correspondence and notebooks to several of his paintings as related to Theosophy. Mondrian participated in his first American group exhibit in 1926. His three years of academic training focused on drawing from the model, copying Old Masters and genre painting.

During the 1904-1905 period he lived and painted in the village of Uden in the southern Dutch province of North Brabant. He passed away on February 1, 1944, at the rather early age of 71. Amsterdam: Sun.

It was only around 1925 that Mondrian began to receive recognition for his contribution to modernism, with his paintings entering the collections of wealthy Europeans and Americans.

Prior to the start of World War II, Mondrian moved to London for two years before settling in New York City in 1940. 2006. While a youngster and a teenager, he lived with his family in the town of Winterswijk, the Netherlands, from 1880 to 1892.
