The Poincaré conjecture, one of the famous problems of 20th -century mathematics, asserts that a simply connected closed 3-dimensional manifold is a 3-dimensional sphere. Here it seems important to be open to the entire spectrum of geometry, from formal to concrete. She married Benedict Freedman on 29 June 1941.
