After marrying in Detroit, the couple moved to Israel, where Malcah was encouraged to paint by Israeli artist Aaron Giladi, who saw her work during a visit to the kibbutz. Anne Frank, New York, NY: Henry Holt and Company.

Zeldis’s work is held in many permanent collections, such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the American Folk Art Museum, and the Jewish Museum in New York.
She enrolled in Brooklyn College in the Early Childhood Studies program and graduated in 1974. It was there that she met and married Hiram Zeldis and began to paint. Her paintings are also autobiographical in subject as she can be “whatever [she] wants.” She often includes a black cat to represent her “bad” self, or a white cat as a stand-in for her “good” self.
