    Governor Trumbull worked tirelessly to ensure Connecticut could provide supplies such as food, lumber, clothing, and livestock, to the Continental Army and the Connecticut Militia.

    Hinman First published 1846. Following the Battles of Lexington and Concord in April 1775, Trumbull was contacted by British General Thomas Gage who sought Trumbull’s cooperation “for the good of his Majesty’s service.” Trumbull refused and chose to side with the Patriots.

      Trumbull served as governor for the next 12 years. Trumbull resigned his office in 1784 after 50 years of public service. Inventory was valued at £320.15.1. Trumbull also served as chief judge of the Supreme Court of Errors during his tenure, and denied an appeal by the U.S. Secretary of War for the service of the Connecticut militia in instituting the Embargo Act. Governor Jonathan Trumbull Jr.

      died in office on August 7, 1809, and he is buried at the Old Cemetery, Lebanon, Connecticut.
