YSR Reddy reflected the spirit of a true Indian whose words were reflected through his actions. He strived day and night to put prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s words into action. During the first two years of his tenure a large sum of Rs.16000 crore were spent for building of irrigation projects. He also led a Paadayaatra from Lepakshi to Pothireddipadu in Kurnool district.
His Yatra took him closer to the poor and rural people and at the same time, it was well received by all the sections of the society. Fresh from his graduation in Medicine from Gulbarga Medical College in Karnataka he was attracted by the speeches and work of late prime minister and Congress President Mrs. Indira Gandhi.
The president of World Bank Dr. Wolfowitz was all praise for his human face approach to economic reforms.
He was India’s fourth-richest MLA and Andhra Pradesh’s richest. One could hardly ever find him pensive or worked up in public.
He was buried with full state honors next to his father’s grave.
Controversy
YSR’s political career was not without controversy and criticism. Citizens of Hyderabad are relieved that there would be no more the hours of waiting and traffic bottlenecks to facilitate a CM’s motorcade.
He was also a philanthropist who established a 70-bed charitable hospital in Pulivendula in 1973, named after his father. At the age of 28, he won the ensuring elections in the year 1978 with the ticket of the Indian National Congress.
Sharmila Reddy is also a leader of the YSR Congress Party and has recently announced her intention to launch a new political party in Telangana.
YSR was a devout Christian who regularly attended church services and prayed.

Such steps took him far more than just a street-smart politician.
For four times Dr. Reddy represented Kadapa constituency as Member of Parliament of India and as a Member of Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh and also same number of times from the Pulivendula constituency. In the year 1973, at Pulivendula, Reddy had established a medium sized hospital comprising of 70-beds and named it after his father Y.S.
Raja Reddy. Traveling 200 miles by road for at least two days a week became his lifestyle for over two years. Brahmananda Reddy and P. Establishment of 21st Century Gurukulas to enable graduates of rural background compete with those from urban areas.
After years of back seat driving in state affairs, Y S Rajasekhara Reddy took on the mantle with his political opponents. Reddy and his family believed in simple living.
