Born and brought up in Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district, Uttam Mohanty acted in 135 Odia and 30 Bengali films.
From iconic movies such as 'Danda Balunga', 'Jahaku Rakhibe Ananta', to 'Rajanigandha', Uttam Mohanty has a lot of blockbuster Odia movies to his acclaim.
His demise is an irreparable loss to the Odia artistic community," he wrote on X.
BJP National Vice President and Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda condoled the death of the legendary actor.

Uttam Mohanty death: Veteran Odia actor Uttam Mohanty passed away at the age of 66 years, at a private hospital in New Delhi on Thursday.
Through his acting in Odia, Bengali, and even Hindi films, he elevated the Odia film industry to new heights. Mohanty also acted in the Hindi film 'Naya Zaher'.

Over his illustrious career, he won several awards, including the Jayadev Award (1999) for his contributions to Odia cinema, Odisha Living Legend Award (2012) and multiple Orissa State Film Awards.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed his deep condolences on the passing of eminent actor Uttam Mohanty.
In a heartfelt message, the Chief Minister emphasized that Mohanty was a shining star of Odia cinema and an undisputed hero for more than two decades.
He began his acting career with Sadhu Meher’s Abhimaan in 1977 and went on to star in hits like Danda Balunga and Kie Jite Kie Haare.
The actor also appeared in around 30 Bengali films and featured in the Hindi film Naya Zaher.
He was honoured with the prestigious Jayadev Puraskar in 1999. His mortal remains were brought to his residence at Jagannath Vihar after the cremation.
Uttam Mohan's last rites will be performed at the Satya Nagar crematorium in Bhubaneshwar with full state honours, a family friend of the veteran actor, Rabi Mishra, told PTI.

Emotions ran high at the deceased actor's residence in Jagannath Vihar, Odisha, after his mortal remains arrived on Friday.
In accordance with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi's directives, the police have made extensive arrangements to ensure a smooth funeral procession and cremation of Uttam Mohan, reported PTI.
How did Uttam Mohanty die
Uttam Mohanty has been admitted in the hopsital since February 8, after his health deteriorated because of liver ailments.
His contributions to the Odia art world were unparalleled, and his demise is considered an irreparable loss.
Chief Minister Majhi acknowledged Mohanty’s significant role in elevating Odia cinema by acting in numerous Bengali and Hindi films along with Odia productions. Praying for the departed soul’s eternal peace, I extend my deepest condolences to the grieving family,” Panda wrote on his X handle.
Uttam Mohanty starred in over 130 films during his career, which spanned more than four decades.
His contribution to the development of Odia film will always be remembered. Shri Mohanty won the hearts of countless viewers by playing the lead role in many Odia films. As a sweet-spoken and humble gentleman, he was the idol of all. I am deeply saddened and heartbroken to hear about the demise of Uttam Mohanty, a beloved and renowned actor known in every household of Odisha.
He succumbed to his illness at 10:45 PM on Thursday, February 27.
Uttam Mohanty is survived by his wife, veteran actress Aparajita Mohanty, and their son, superstar Babushan Mohanty.
