Chatting to the Telegraph back in 2012, Michael revealed what he loves about her:

“She doesn’t want people to feel sorry for her.

I don’t want you here!’ because I just felt so guilty and I felt like it would be easier for me if I didn’t have anyone who loved me.”

The inspirational burns survivor told The Australian Women’s Weekly: “We all have that inner strength, but rarely do we get the chance to see how incredible we truly are.

“I’ve had to claw my way back into life – learn to walk, to talk.

He’s my best friend. He left his job to care for her, tending to her needs, helping her regain mobility, and offering unwavering emotional support.

Turia was born in Tahiti and moved to Australia with her family when she was three years old.
