The Tragic Death Of Bing Crosby's Son Lindsay
The Crosby Boys — a singing quartet consisting of Lindsay and his elder brothers Gary, Dennis, and Phillip Crosby — disbanded after Lindsay suffered a nervous breakdown in July of 1962.
He eventually worked on the production staff of his father's company, Bing Crosby Productions.
Finding limited success in other ventures, he had a tumultuous personal life himself, marrying three times and having five children.
Unable to find a steady manner of supporting his third wife Susan Marlin and his family, he became reliant on other sources. Lindsay, his youngest son with Dixie Lee, committed suicide in 1989 (via Buffalo News).
The couple would have four sons together; Gary, born in 1933; twin boys Phillip and Dennis, born in 1934; and Lindsay, born in 1938. The couple had three children: a son named Harry, born in 1958; a daughter, Mary born in 1959; and another son, Nathaniel, born in 1961.
In 1977, Crosby died from a heart attack in Spain.
The long-suffering Lindsay, who had battled bitter divorces, drinking problems, and his own mental health, couldn't accept this.
On December 11 that year, at the age of just 51, he died from a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at his home in Calabasas. Drawn reluctantly into performing in a musical act with his brothers, "The Crosby Brothers," Dennis appeared with them in clubs and on television.
Two years later, Dennis also committed suicide (via The Washington Post). Dennis Crosby, stricken by his brother's death, took his own life at his own home just two years later, AP news reports, shooting himself with a shotgun.
Sadly, tragedy seemed to run in the family. Lindsay's mother, Dixie Lee, passed away years earlier, at just age 42, from ovarian cancer, after reportedly suffering from alcoholism and poor mental health herself.
But fame brought trouble, as they all suffered with alcohol addiction. This experience surely also contributed to Lindsay's mental anguish.

American occasional actor, son of Bing Crosby and Dixie Lee.
Born into show business as his father was becoming a superstar, Crosby and his three brothers grew up in wealth, but reportedly suffered at best inattention and unkindness, and possibly actual abuse at worst, from their father, at least according to a memoir written by Dennis's brother, Gary Crosby. Their mother died in 1952. Crosby would remarry however, and have more children.
In 1957, Crosby got hitched for his second and last time to Kathryn Grandstaff.
Together they formed The Crosby Boys (posted on YouTube). Like father, like sons, all of the Crosby boys went into entertainment. In 1995, Crosby's first child died of cancer (via another Washington Post link). Depression and alcohol problems plagued him, and in 1991, he shot himself to death, less than two years after the suicide of his younger brother Lindsay Crosby.
According to AP News, mother Dixie Lee Crosby had ensured that her sons would be financially secure through "investments in crude oil." On November 30, 1989, the Crosby brothers learned that this source of money had dried up.
