Sharifa Fadel (ar|شريفة فاضل 27 September 1938 – 5 March 2023), stage name of Tawfika Mahmud Ahmed Nada (ar|فوقيَّة محمود أحمد ندا), was an Egyptian singer and actress.
Life and career
Born in Cairo, the granddaughter of qāriʾ Ahmed Nada Fadel, Sharifa Fadel started her career as a child, appearing in a radio program for children and in several films starting from 1947.[1][2] Trained since childhood in music and religious chanting, she studied at the Cairo Institute of Dramatic Arts.
Among the most popular Egyptian singers between the 1950s and the 1980s, Fadel made her professional debut recording "Amanat Ma Tshahrni Ya Bakra" by composer Mohamed Al-Moji.
Her father opposed her having a career in the entertainment field, however, her mother played a crucial role in shaping her artistic future. She joined the acting institute but did not complete her studies.
Fadel appeared for the first time on the screen in the 1947 film "Al Ab"(The Father).
She worked for a short time in the radio with renowned radio figure Baba Sharo, before she married Elsayed Bedir, who directed her in one film before they separated.
Musician Mohamed Al-Moji collaborated with her on her first song "Amana Ma Tshahrni Ya Bokra".
She was the granddaughter of the famous Qur’ān reciter Sheikh Ahmad Nadā, the founder of a recitation school, and was trained as a child by masters of religious singing and music. After her parents’ separation, she and her brothers lived in the home of her stepfather, Ibrāhīm Bāšā al-Falakiyy, a wealthy Egyptian, and she even sang before King Faruq , who expressed his admiration for her voice.
At the end of the 1940s, the producer ʿUmar Ǧumayʿiyy asked her mother, who supported her artistically, to let her appear in a child role in the film “The Father”, which became her first role.

Veteran Egyptian singer, Sharifa Fadel has passed away at the age of 85, a member of her family announced on Saturday. She died in 2023 at the age of 84, after struggling with age-related problems for years and having recently become seriously ill.
Al-Ain . Further child roles followed until, after appearing in the films “Farewell, My Love” and “My Children”, she entered an acting institute in 1951, where she was initially only admitted as a listener due to her young age. She left behind an iconic repertoire of a raft of iconic songs that keeps her presence are still very much remembered.

Fadel, was born in Cairo in the thirties, her real name was Fawqia Mahmoud Ahmed Nada. Sharīfa Fāḍil appeared in many films from the late 1950s to the 1980s. . 5 March 2023.

The acclaimed singer died after decades of being absent from the art scene. Fadel died on 5 March 2023, at the age of 85.

As one of the singers of the “Golden Generation”, she combined classical Arabic singing with folk music and hints of Western pop music in her songs and is considered a forerunner of the Šaʿbiyy music genre.
She married the director as-Sayyid Badīr, with whom she had a son, and who made a film with her, before they separated again.
