Del Rio made a cameo appearance in David Lynch’s 2001 film Mulholland Drive, singing “Llorando” a cappella. They were present while I was doing my scene, so I sang to them. I also wanted the beautiful girls in the balcony, [the film's stars] Laura Harring and Naomi Watts, to experience it live.
There, she was signed to Irving Azoff's label, Giant Records, and recorded her first album, Nobody's Angel. Del Rio made a notablecameoappearance as herself in David Lynch's Mulholland Dr., singing "Llorando" a cappella.
The Los Angeles Coroner's Office confirmed Del Rio's death to Variety, noting she died June 23 at her home in Los Angeles.
According to a 2022 interview Del Rio gave in The Guardian, “Nobody’s Angel” reached No. 2 on the singles charts in the Netherlands.
Her vocals can be heard on numerous soundtracks including Sin City, Streets of Legend, Man on Fire, and Mia Sarah. He died in 2009 at the age of 23.
According to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner, Del Rio died at her home on June 23, 2025, at the age of 57.

The San Diego Union-Tribune voted Del Rio one of the “Top 10 Singers in San Diego”, after which she moved to Los Angeles in 1989 to further develop her career.
There, she was signed to Irving Azoff’s label, Giant Records, and recorded her first album, Nobody’s Angel. After recording the song “Llorando”, a Spanish-language version of Roy Orbison’s “Crying”, she moved to Nashville in 1994. And with every take, I sang along, because I felt I had to produce that same feeling with the vibrato in my throat so the audience could see it.

Lynch wrote the number into "Mulholland Drive," in a now-iconic scene that sees Del Rio in two-toned eyeshadow and a bedazzled tear, singing the heartbreaking anthem to lead stars Naomi Watts and Laura Harring, the sorrow echoing in an empty theater.

Though it's ironic because, as you point out, the scene is set up with an illusion in mind, and I faint in the middle of the song, yet the recording still goes on. No hay banda. In his book The Impossible David Lynch, Todd McGowan describes Del Rio’s performance with the phrase “the voice as the impossible object.” In the nightclub scene, Del Rio is introduced as “La Llorona de Los Ángeles” (Crying Woman of Los Angeles), who belts out the song, only to faint onstage while the song continues playing, revealing that she was lip-synching.
At that point, she had already recorded "Llorando," a Spanish-language version of Roy Orbison's "Crying."
