She appeared in several college theater productions in 2003 including "Peter Pan," "The Wiz" and "The Vagina Monologues." Sidibe later said she cherished her theater experience because it allowed her to stretch her limits by taking on different personas on stage.
Sidibe's life changed after reading the 1996 novel Push, written by Ramona "Sapphire" Lofton.
At the same time, she began a recurring role on the comedy "Difficult People" (Hulu 2015- ).

Gabourey Sidibe is an American actress who grew up in Harlem and attended several colleges within New York City, including Borough of Manhattan Community College, City College of New York, and Mercy College.
Both young actresses had a great experience in New York, with Dakota appearing on the cover in a corset over a blouse from Vionnet, while Sidibe was chosen to show off her bare décolletage.
