Joaquin Cortes was featured in two international films in 1995, including The Flower of My Secret by Spanish director Pedro Almodovar, and then started work on his most successful production to date called “Pasión Gitana” (Gypsy Passion), for which he earned international attention as a dancer, choreographer and artistic director.

On November 9, he received the keys to the city of Miami from Mayor Regalado.

In that same year he performed several choreographies for the Spanish group Mecano, appearing in the video clip Una rosa es una rosa for the Aidalai Tour, dancing as a couple with the singer Ana Torroja. He visits cities as diverse as London, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Milan, Rome, Tokyo, Osaka, Hannover at Expo 2000, or Beirut at the Beittedine Festival.

In 1997, the new production went on to tour Latin America and by 1998 it moved on to show in Sydney, Tokyo, Canada and New York.

In partnership with the choreographer Debbie Allen, he took part in the Oscar awards ceremony in 1999. He collaborated on various underground magazines. The costume design for this work was due to his friend, designer Giorgio Armani.

    Joaquín Pedraja Reyes, better known as Joaquín Cortés (Córdoba, February 22, 1969) is a Spanish dancer, choreographer and producer. In his four years of touring he traveled to more than forty countries and was seen by more than one and a half million people, highlighting performances such as those at the Spoleto Festival, Radio City Music Hall in New York, the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles, the Caracas Polyhedron, the Tokyo Forum, the Royal Albert Hall in London and Ipanema beach in Rio de Janeiro.

    At the end of this year he began to create his work Gitano which premiered in March 2014 at the Tívoli Theater in Barcelona. They present him as the mythical and immortal founder of the city of Seville, who comes to crown the winners of these games with olive branches.
