The world seems to be in a very precarious state with so much conflict in so many places. In 2013, he won Designer of the Year in his home country, Spain.
While creating the objects, I find myself able to edit and re-edit my ideas.
During the time of working on Evolution, I was exploring the concept of pollution and its connection to what constitutes furniture for me, as opposed to what defines furniture for today’s society and the future. For Carbonell, forming a relationship with his work is integral – he creates objects with his hands in order to impart his personality to them.
He started collaborating with Carpenters Workshop Gallery in 2015 and has since become one of the leading artists that the gallery represents worldwide. I want to create objects with my hands; then I can give them my personality. In 2013, Carbonell won Architectural Digest Spain’s Designer of the Year award.
Carbonell’s modern works have been exhibited at museums around the world, including the Groningen Museum in the Netherlands, the 21_21 Design Sight Museum in Japan, Fonds National D’Art Contemporain in France, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Mint Museum in North Carolina.

In 2009, his Evolution collection merited a nomination for the Beazley Design of the Year from London’s Design Museum. The sculptures, like my children being born or influenced by my travels and global events, undergo a transformative process. “I want to create objects with my hands, then I can give them my personality. Born in 1980, Carbonell spent his childhood in Valencia.

He graduated in 2003 from Cardenal Herrera University in Spain and went on to study at the Design Academy Eindhoven.
