I’ll still take Captain Noah, Sally Starr and Gene London from Philly.

I read in a few places on the internet that diabetes took Major Mudd’s life. I hope you will add it to the website!!!

Major Mudd Memories!

I recall my next door neighbor and friend, Johnny Schiff, when I was a kid....his dad Morris Schiff, had that car or one a few years later....( we moved there in 62').

To start off, here's a photo of Major Mudd looking for his "Lost Battalion":

These cartoons appeared in the "crawl" at the end of the show. Dad seems to remember that he killed himself, mom says he died of natural causes.
I can remember nothing of him or his show, let alone his untimely demise.

Up in the sky so blue! Just so you know, this thread discussion originally occurred almost 15 years ago so there’s little chance any of the participants will see what you posted.

Ed McDonnell died in 1979 of complications from diabetes.

He was a native of Philadelphia, his first role on national television had been as the chauffeur Cheddar on the Ernie Kovacs Show.

cantsayit, thanks for your contribution.

The bumbling Mudd commanded a spacecraft — the Nervous 1 — and his duties included participating in skits, interacting with the audience of kiddies, and introducing cartoon segments. So, yeah, I suppose he could very well be the “IBBY guy”…

Telemark5

Yup, that’s Major Mudd. I’ve tried in vain to find any web pages that make any sort of mention of him.

Jois2

Is or was he the IBBY guy?

If yes, my older brothers worshiped him and might know what happened to him.

EDWARD THOMAS MCDONNELL - "MAJOR MUDD"

"The Major Mudd Show" was a hosted children's show with Edward Thomas McDonnell as host "Major Mudd".

Excerpts from "Kurt's Historic Sites":

McDonnell played the fictional astronaut during the height of space age fever — and beyond — from 1961 to 1974, on WNAC-TV Channel 7, broadcast from Boston.

No?

Last post was in 2005, but last “activity” (login) was in January 2014.

These wonderful pictures come from Ted Lavash, who worked as a freelance artist for WNAC-TV in 1966. My mother has had this picture of me and the guy in the space-suit hanging in their house for as long as I can remember.
Spent my lunch hour trying to find out any more info about Ed Mc Donnell to no avail.
I’m curious what became of him.

I remember the doors being so big and heavy and seemingly THICKER than my parents cars ( which were big Pontiacs!!!). This has been plaguing me for years. No?

??
I read his last post as being 4/03/2005. In 1972, control of the station reverted to its pre-1961 parent, CBS, and Major Mudd underwent major changes.

I believe he played FEEP, the host of (was it Fantasmic Features??).

Major Mudd was my fave kids show host, I remember my older brothers being into him too. Wasn’t there one more, some other odd little “________________” of his?
