The book was inspired by the integral role young people play in advancing socio-economic pillars of their respective countries, but often this is undervalued and downplayed. Expanding her influence, she was the Policy Facilitation & Learning Specialist at USAID, where she engaged in critical discussions surrounding policy development and implementation in East and Southern Africa.

Her work has revolved around enhancing brand development, managing projects, facilitating crises, and supporting youth advocacy across Africa.

I was born in Meru, a county in Eastern Kenya. In this role, she has contributed to numerous national and regional campaigns aimed at eliminating malaria in Kenya and across the continent.

As the author of the 2020 bestselling book #YOUTHCAN, an inspiring anthology featuring powerful stories from young people throughout Africa, Lizz not only sheds light on the triumphs and challenges faced by today’s youth but also motivates countless others to break through barriers in their lives. I juggled several things back then; I was pursuing my law degree, worked for two organisations, and still managed to volunteer for another organization.

She further expanded her credentials by studying Public Management as a Fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University and delving into Competition Policy at Strathmore Business School.

Moreover, she earned an LLB in Law from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, empowering her with a comprehensive understanding of the legal frameworks that often intersect with public policy and governance.

Lizz's career has been marked by significant milestones that underline her expertise and leadership in her respective fields.

Governments, the private and international development sectors need to do more in allocating more funding for women led business ventures and at the workplace ensuring employees have safe channels to report bullying, sexual harassment and racism without being exposed, victimized and even worse, dismissed.

What role do you believe men as allies can play in the promotion of gender equality and women’s leadership?

It will take 286 years to close the global gender gap, according to the latest figures from the United Nations.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Management from Strathmore Business School (SBS), equipping her with critical insights into public sector governance. I always ask the uncomfortable questions because I love clarity. I love gardening too. In addition, a majority of girls and women in low and middle income countries are still denied education and employment, and have limited opportunities in trade, industry and government.

Prior to this role, Lizz demonstrated her strategic acumen as the Communication Manager for Central, East, and West Africa at IBM, where her leadership contributed significantly to regional outreach and engagement.

Additionally, at IBM, she served as the External Relations Leader for East Africa, shaping communication strategies that fostered mutually beneficial partnerships.

Being able to do these things and multitask and be efficient at all tasks assigned to me at work and still study and pass my exams, is something that has shaped who I am today.

In 2021 you self-published your book #YouthCan. This requires a lot of creative pivoting," says Lizz, adding, "It's about staying ahead of the curve by reading a lot, understanding new trends, especially how digital media is disrupting the industry, and using technology in your content supply chains to automate operations, drive decision-making and personalise consumer and stakeholder experiences."
