Many did not anticipate that Kirigo, the Charming news anchor could be among the lot that was fired at Citizen.
In an exclusive Interview with SDE, Kirigo reveals that she received the news of her sacking TV with shock as she never imagined that she could be fired from the TV station at that time.
According to her she knew that some people would be laid off but she never pictured herself in that shoe.
“My lay-off came as a bit of a shock to me as I did not see myself leaving Citizen TV any time soon.
She hosted the morning show with Willis Raburu. I did the screen test, but our boss, Farida Karoney thought differently. So here I was, not entirely happy but hoping that the world would notice and make it easier for me, you would think I would have resigned if I wasn’t happy but I didn’t, I was scared of the unknown,” Kirigo confessed.
But despite getting laid off, Kirigo admits that the morning show had quite an impact in her life as it enabled her to be real on television and bring her thoughts to life.
“I thoroughly enjoyed hosting the morning show.
I gave birth to an idea I had in mind for so long, that of being real in every sense of that phrase on telly.…That show allowed me to bring some thoughts to life, and I am eternally grateful,” She disclosed.

Earlier Life
Kirigo Ngarua grew up in Harambee, Jerusalem and South B areas of Nairobi.
Since then, everyday has been a highlight on TV.” explained Kirigo when asked on how she got to TV.
Sacked from Citizen Tv
The company has been on a cost-cutting mission and Kirigo Ngarua is among the employees who have been affected by the layoff of staff. In that shock, I wasn’t sure how to react. I have some of my relatives abroad and they invited me over to spend some time with them and I considered it a way for me to take my mind off things,” Said Kirigo.
She added that she took the exit as a learning experience and since then she has learnt to dedicate most of her time to herself.
The hard times away from the TV screen pushed Kirigo to start her own online show dubbed The Girls Table.
“Yes, my show is currently up and running and I have shot four episodes already.
It is basically an online show that mostly targets women and women empowerment. Kirigo is the first born in family of two children.
Education
Kirigo Ngarua enrolled for a Journalism course at Tangaza College which is a constituent college of Catholic University of Eastern Africa and later did her Master’s degree at the University of Nairobi.
Career Life
Kirigo Ngarua did not foresee herself being a celebrated anchor, but from an early age she knew she wanted to be in the media.
I decided to do an online show as everything is moving digital and the reach is bigger and further.” Added Kirigo
Kirigo’s journey in the media Industry started at Hot 96 as a radio presenter after clearing campus before moving to Citizen TV.

Many did not anticipate that Kirigo, the charming news anchor could be among the ones laid off from Citizen.
2 years after the infamous lay-off, Kirigo has laid bare her struggles at the station which many journalists desire to work in.
The calm news anchor disclosed that though she was happy that her show was a success she really struggled with being happy at the station.
Not because Citizen was a toxic environment, but because her heart was elsewhere and she didn’t feel like she was growing.
“As much as I enjoyed the show I wasn’t ‘growing’…and it showed to those who knew/know me, I mean, here I am, a girl with her Masters in International Diplomacy, a topic I so love but never got a chance to discuss it.
Kirigo Ngarua was reportedly sacked for low ratings. But there was no going back for me.
