For larger prints, this means either using a large format original negative or making digitally enlarged negatives. Travel has greatly enriched my life and my understanding of the people who share the planet with us. In 2019, Kerik learned the very first photographic process, the daguerreotype. But all these places represent Home to me in their own ways.

His works are held in private and corporate collections in North America and Europe and notably in the Museum of Fine Art, Houston and the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, Newcastle, Pennsylvania.
Kerik Kouklis is a photographer raised in California with a background in Geology and Music.
Born and raised in California with a background in music and geology, Kerik combines a contemporary eye with 19th, 20th, and 21st-century processes to produce work that is uniquely his own. In 2017, Kerik completed his first documentary short film, “Mongolia in Winter”. Platinum printing is a contact printing process, limiting the print size to that of the negative.
He is currently working on a documentary film about an Antarctic expedition that occurred in 1958. The prints tend to be somewhat softer in appearance and are effused with delicate midtones and a gentle glow. Kerik serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Viewpoint Photographic Art Center in Sacramento, California.

Earth is Home: A World of Photographs
Home is something that I’ve been thinking a lot about the past few years.
I also stood in the middle of the Gobi Desert on a summer night when there was nothing but starlight and the light from our campfire. His work is in private and public collections in several countries and is the collection of the Museum of Fine Art, Houston. It really must be seen to be appreciated. He has been teaching some of these processes in workshops since 1997.
On several occasions, I have also stood in awe of mother nature watching the aurora borealis dance across the skies in Iceland. We were helpless and could only bear witness to one of Nature’s heart-breaking realities as the whales were in their death throes. This process involves printing one or more layers of gum bichromate over the platinum image using the same negative.
Kerik makes good use of his large-format cameras, ranging from 8x10 inch up to 14x17 inches (this is the size of the negative or plate, made of glass in the case of the wet plate collodion process. Kerik’s work is currently represented by AureliaGallery in New Mexico, Oficino Uno in Carmel, and the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite, where he is in his 26th year teaching historic printing techniques in Ansel’s darkroom.
