Sanghavi swiftly assumed direct oversight of the sports domain, astutely recognizing its growing strategic significance for both Gujarat and India. Nowadays, he is associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party and became the youngest home minister of Gujarat in 2021. Within Transport, he oversaw the development of a Logistics Master Plan to streamline industrial transport across eight major cities and facilitated urban mobility improvements, including the deployment of 42 premium State Transport buses in Surat.
These initiatives showcased Gujarat’s capacity to plan, finance, and execute ambitious projects of considerable scale and complexity.
Harsh Sanghavi’s elevation to Deputy Chief Minister represents a transition from portfolio-specific administration to statewide policy coordination. In the past, Sanghavi has also worked with Anurag Thakur, now the Minister of Information & Broadcasting, and MP Poonam Mahajan, when they were BJP youth wing president.
But it was his work as an MLA during the Covid pandemic, his decision to organise job fairs for unemployed youths and to set up book banks in Surat, and his work in tribal areas that made him one of the most sought-after young faces within the Gujarat BJP.
He was also one of the backroom boys in Varanasi during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and played a key role in reaching out to the Indian diaspora ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s events.
He was born in Surat and currently lives in B-2, City Light Rd, City Light Town, Athwa, Surat, Gujarat- 395007. At 15, he joined the BJP’s Yuva Morcha and began engaging with local communities through social work. This was Harsh Sanghavi, who was promoted from a minister of state (MoS) to the rank of deputy chief minister.
It also marked the first time that the BJP brought back the post of Deputy CM since Nitin Patel’s stint in the position from 2016 to 2021 when Vijay Rupani was at the helm.
The exercise is expected to bring in four to five new ministers and drop about 10 incumbents, reflecting a strategic realignment of the state leadership.

New Delhi/Mumbai: On Friday, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) overhauled its Gujarat cabinet, the ceremony at the Raj Bhavan started with one of the youngest ministers taking oath.
At only 40 years of age, Sanghavi has become a youth icon while serving in the high-profile and sensitive role of Minister of State (MoS) for Home—a position previously occupied by party bigwigs such as Amit Shah himself and Pradipsinh Jadeja.
His addition to the cabinet was seen by party top brass, including PM Modi, HM Shah, and then-state chief C.R.
Patil, as a strategic move. Referring to him as a ‘workaholic’, BJP state leader Sandeep described how Sanghavi began working in tribal areas on sickle cell anaemia after one of his friends died of the disease.
Another BJP leader said Sanghavi’s involvement in reaching out to the Indian diaspora ahead of Modi’s foreign tours, be it his 2014 visit to Australia or 2017 Israel visit are the factors behind the 40-year-old leader’s early political success.

Patil, alongside parliamentarians, MLAs, party functionaries, and senior bureaucrats. As Deputy Chief Minister, he is expected to navigate the complexities of industrial growth, urban governance, and policy integration, while acting as a central executor of the Chief Minister’s agenda.
Ultimately, the Deputy CM position remains a prism through which Gujarat’s administrative coherence, policy execution, and regional representation can be assessed.

Harshbhai is always ready to help the needy. In the Home Department, he led modernization projects for the Gujarat Police, enhancing security infrastructure.
There are only few leaders in India who does not have criminal offences or cases registered against them. He later told the Gujarat High Court that the vials of the anti-viral drug were distributed to the needy patients from the BJP’s office in Surat on grounds of “compassion and humanity”.

His most notable achievement in this sphere was securing Ahmedabad’s rights to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games - a complex, multi-stage process that culminated in his personal visit to London to submit the final formal proposal to the Commonwealth Sport authorities. Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi conducted the proceedings.
At forty, Sanghavi attains the distinction of becoming the youngest Deputy Chief Minister in Gujarat’s history.
Other MLAs followed him after seeing his well-equipped isolation ward.
This led him to become one of the trusted lieutenants of Modi, Shah and former BJP state president C.R. Paatil.
During the 2017 assembly election, Sanghavi, under the guidance of Paatil, played a key role in organising Modi’s roadshow in Surat.
