Ella apareció en nueve películas, incluyendo "Los reyes del mambo". Pupi Lagarreta and Yomo Toro on strings and cuatro and guitar. This music, the energy, the culture, it feels like home to me. I had to have that music. I love Jennifer, I love Marc Anthony and I'm a new fan of Hector Lavoe. I love it. Esto le daría a su música una gran audiencia.

Celia no solo era conocida por su destreza vocal, sino también por su talento dramático.

I went to Walmart not knowing the title and grabbed one CD of his, and something told me to get El Cantante. Thirty-one performing groups, 17 from Zaire and 14 from overseas, performed. On piano is the legendary Larry Harlow who keeps rhythm and clave along with the percussionists and was one of the most studious of all jazz musicians when it came to afro cuban music.

You can feel it in the air.

Celia Cruz and The Fania All-Stars performed in Zaire, Africa in 1974

In 1974, the Fania All-Stars performed in Zaire, Africa, at the 80,000-seat Stade du 20 mai in Kinshasa.

It includes all the afro Caribbean greats from Celia on down all recruited by Johnny Pacheco, including rare appearances by Jorge Santana and Hector Lavoe. She honed her skills for 15 years before having to leave Cuba due to the revolution and settled in Mexico where she was making a name for herself while expanding the popularity of the legendary orchestra.

It is also available on DVD, which is how I got to see it.

I've had a decent amount of interest for years now, but not enough to go and purchase an album or go seeking videos and whatnot, but enjoyed listening to it on XM sometimes. People like Nicki Marrero, Roberto Roena and the great Ray Barreto on percussion and all together at the same time. So of course I have to see the movie.

I get so happy looking at him and Celia perform. Anyone who has followed the history of Latin jazz knows that the artists featured were at the top of their game when this concert was filmed. It was her eternal wish to return to Cuba and perform before her adoring fans. For anyone who wants to see the top Fania recordings live, this is a must. He was a creator of The Fania All-Stars that included some of the greatest Latin musicians and singers at their prime, as well as Fania Records, co-founded in 1964 with an Italian-American divorce attorney, Jerry Masucci.

Or when in Miami, when I went to Mangos and just let loose, it really comes out then.
