In August 2009, they attended the Sons of Anarchy season 2 premiere.

And in June 2012, they went to the Critics Choice Television Awards, where he was nominated for Sons of Anarchy in the Best Actor in a Drama Series category.

Hunnam once asked fans to stop bullying McNelis online.

Per a 2016 People report, Hunnam wrote on his Facebook fan page at the time: “It has been brought to my attention that there is a group of immature girls posting a large number of hard messages aimed at my longtime girlfriend.
