Carlos Mamery suffered a massive heart attack at his home in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, on December 2, 2014. Mamery, 54, reportedly suffered a massive heart attack the morning of Dec. 2.
A charming, gregarious man and a celebrity in his own right, Mamery had a long trajectory as a radio personality and programmer, and most recently had been appointed vp/general manager of Mega TV and SBS Puerto Rico, a post he had held a few years back.
Aside from his work as an executive, Mamery was also married to Puerto Rican star Yolandita Monge but managed to build his own brand.
Most recently, Mamery was a judge on reality show Idol Puerto Rico and also had a segment on the TV show Lo Sé Todo on local station Wapa TV.
In October, he announced he would return to SBS.
Reaction to Mamery’s death was swift, with the governor of Puerto Rico issuing a statement and multiple artists writing on social media.
“I’ve lost a brother,” wrote Venezuelan star Ricardo Montaner, who today was releasing his new album, Agradecido, and had plans to go on promotion to Puerto Rico this week.
Mamery would go on to manage artists (Jerry Rivera and actor Jorge Abello were also clients), work in advertising and concert promotion and, most recently, television. Topy Mamery was the son of disc jockey, Gilbert Mamery.
In 2014, the Puerto Rican edition of TVyNovelas tabloid magazine published photographs of Mamery kissing model, Shalimar Rivera, alleging an affair.
Mamery addressed the allegations on the WAPA-television show, "Lo Sé Todo," saying, "When one has as much time in this business, you learn how to fight battles and I"ve fought many..When you respond to these things, you go on a hallway with no end because then comes another one and another one and another one." Additional pictures of Mamery and Rivera were released via Univision in November 2014.
Career
Mamery was a judge on the reality music competition show Idol Puerto Rico from its launch in 2011 until his death in 2014. Mamery served as a judge on Idol Puerto Rico for seasons 1 through 3. He was taken unresponsive to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at the age of 54.

Montaner, who was managed on and off by Mamery through the years, said he would likely move his trip up to be with Mamery’s family.“Surprised, upset with the sudden death of Topy Mamery,” wrote Puerto Rican singer Olga Tañón.
Like many celebrities in Puerto Rico, Mamery was of ten the subject of gossip in the press, but managed to remain unfazed and immensely popular; he had become a commentator on politics and social issues on Wapa and had nearly 75,000 followers on twitter.
His last foray in social media was Nov.
30, when he posted a backstage photo with Carlos Vives during Vives’ show in Puerto Rico.
Mamery was the son of well-known Puerto Rican radio personality Gilbert Mamery. Mamery proved to be an engaging TV personality, with a special titled El Rollo de Topy that aired on Nov.
30 to huge ratings.
