In 2009, Santana and his ten-piece band embarked on a tour of Latin America, giving 13 concerts. He also debuted his own music review, Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through the Hits, at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas that same year. The band's early success, capped off by a memorable performance at Woodstock in 1969, led to a recording contract with Columbia Records, then run by Clive Davis.
Their first album, Santana (1969), spurred by a Top 10 single, "Evil Ways," went triple platinum, selling more than four million copies and remaining on the Billboard charts for more than two years.
In the same year, their manager, Bill Graham, passed away. The peak of their touring in 1991 was the Rock in Rio II festival. He followed it with another double album, "The Swing of Delight" (1980) – an instrumental jazz-rock opus. Milagro means “miracle,” and the image of children as divine miracles of light and hope-gifts to our lives-is the inspiration behind its name.

Carlos Santana: The Guitar Legend
Carlos Santana, born on July 20, 1947, in the small Mexican town of Autlan de Navarro, is an unparalleled leader of the band Santana and a talented guitarist.
In 2009, he received a Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award and several years later became a Kennedy Center Honors recipient. The group emerged onto the global stage with an epic set at the Woodstock festival in 1969, the same year that its self-titled debut LP Santana came out. In September 1972, Carlos and singer and drummer Buddy Miles performed a concert in Hawaii, which resulted in the album "Live!" They were followed by the stylistically cohesive "Caravanserai" – a work in which different compositions were recorded by different musicians, though few listeners noticed.
In 1955, the Santana family moved from Autlan to Tijuana, where the music scene was thriving with rock and roll. The band made an attempt to recover lost ground, but the album "Borboletta" (1974) did not achieve significant popularity. In April 1973, Santana got married, an event that might not have been worth mentioning if his wife Urmila had not been a follower of guru Sri Chinmoy.
Santana embarked on an extensive tour with vocalist Leon Thomas, and fragments of it were included in the triple album "Lotus" (1975). When he was five years old, Santana's father, Jose Santana, a professional violinist, took it upon himself to teach his eldest son the basics of music theory and how to play the violin. Carlos absorbed various musical trends, developing and deepening his own style of guitar playing.
To date, Santana has won 10 GRAMMY® Awards, including a record-tying nine for a single project, 1999’s Supernatural (including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for “Smooth”) as well as three Latin GRAMMY’s. One of the audience members, James Lewis, offered his services and got the job. In the early 1960s, Santana moved again with his family, this time to San Francisco, where his father had already relocated to find work.
Featuring collaborations with Rob Thomas, Chris Stapleton, Steve Winwood, and many others, it is heralded as one of American Songwriter’s Best Albums of the Year.
“The title of this album comes from my belief that we’re born with heavenly powers that allows us to create blessings and miracles,” Santana says. Disillusioned with the heady, drug-addled world of 1970s rock music, Santana turned to Chinmoy's teachings of meditation and to a new kind of spiritually-oriented music, marked by a popular jazz album he recorded with McLaughlin entitled Love Devotion Surrender and released in early 1973.

Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, Santana and his band released a string of successful albums in their unique style.
Recently, he celebrated three epic milestones – the 20th anniversary of his groundbreaking album Supernatural, the 50th anniversary of his legendary performance at Woodstock, and the 50th anniversary of his masterpiece Abraxas.
Last year marked the release of Blessings and Miracles (2021), one of the most ambitious, inspired and magical albums of Santana’s storied career.
