This school was for orphaned children.

In 1918, Hershey gave most of his money and control of his company to a special fund. The school continues to exist today. This fund, called the Milton Hershey School Trust, was created to benefit the school. Milton Hershey became famous for his Crystal A caramel.

The company received five Army-Navy 'E' Production Awards for their excellent work. At the end of the war, the Hershey plant was making 24 million ration bars every week!

So, they booked passage on an earlier ship, the SS Amerika. However, they had to cancel their plans at the last minute.

Milton Hershey had important business matters that needed his attention. Reese peanut cup founder Harry Burnett Reese used to buy his chocolate from Hershey. His mother and father were also buried there later.

Death and Legacy

Milton Hershey died from pneumonia in Hershey Hospital on October 13, 1945.

Derry Township was ideal because of the requirement for large quantities of milk for his chocolate. This cemetery was built by Hershey himself. They married in 1898 but were only married for 17 years as she died from a neurological disease. They asked Hershey to make the Tropical Chocolate Bar. This bar tasted better but was still very durable. Milton Hershey established the Hershey Chocolate Company in 1894.

The Hershey's Bar with almonds came out in 1908.

On March 2, 1903, Hershey started building his chocolate factory. He borrowed money to start the Lancaster Caramel Company. This helped Hershey pay off his debts and buy more ingredients.

By the early 1890s, the Lancaster Caramel Company was very big. He built a town around his chocolate factory.

This town was comfortable and affordable for his employees.
