1990–1999: Further acting career, and television appearances
Midler's 1990 cover of the Julie Gold song "From a Distance", the first offering from her seventh studio album Some People's Lives (1990), topped the BillboardAdult Contemporary charts and achieved platinum status in the US.
The same year, she starred along with Trini Alvarado as the title character in John Erman's drama film Stella. The president called Midler a "washed up psycho" who was saying mean things about him because she had a bitter history of resentment towards him.

Personal Life
In 1995, Midler established the New York Restoration Project (NYRP), a non-profit organization dedicated to revitalizing green spaces in low-income neighborhoods across New York City. October 21, 2011.
