Amrutha Venkatesh started her career as a performing Vocalist in the year 1996 . She has imbibed the best from her gurus  M.T.Selvanarayana , Charumathi Ramachandran , Prince Rama Varma and Parassala B.Ponnammal.

The amused teacher immediately took Amrutha on.

Sharada Shivaram taught Amrutha basic lessons and some bhajans after which Malathi Singalachar taught her for a few months. This resulted in her first December season concert in Chennai in 2001.

Other sabha-s in Chennai also took notice of Amrutha. She has also performed extensively, not only in Karnataka, where she is based, but also in various cities in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh, and in Mumbai.

Amrutha has won prizes in many competitions including those conducted by AIR, which has also been broadcasting her vocal and veena concerts.

A student of science in a Bangalore college, she started performing at the age of six and has over 250 concerts to her credit. She has a number of albums and recordings in her name. Her father, M.K. Venkatesh, loved Western music and popular Carnatic pieces.

She won a ragam-tanam-pallavi competition at Narada Gana Sabha at the age of 11. Extensive research underpins her innovative pallavis in uniquely structured tALams. Both teachers had to stop for personal reasons. Her mother, Radha, grew up surrounded by music. Tagging along with her mother who was then learning veena from Suma Sudhindra, Amrutha found the veena fascinating because of Suma’s fluid fingers and her personality itself.  She learned the basic lessons for a few weeks from Bimba Rani in Suma’s school, prior to transferring to Suma herself.

Flat swara-s or gamaka, long karvai or briga she has them all.

Amrutha Venkatesh

Amrutha Venkatesh’s creative and out-of-the-box presentations are piquing audiences’ attention everywhere she sings. Not for her grimaces, scowls or other facial contortions either – she maintains an even, even cheery, countenance whilst singing.

Her sruti and laya sense are admirable. Grandfather, Dr. K.S. Ramaswami, had music around him always, thus absorbing it. She is the recipient of Voleti Venkateswarlu, Emani Sankara Sastry prize, Best vocalist award, Spirit of Youth and CMANA awards. Her teaching methodology has gained prominence and she has students all over the world, many of whom are performing artists and teachers .

Amrutha has also learnt to play the veena from Suma Sudhindra. Under his patronage, she had numerous opportunities to perform in Nada Inbam and soon became a popular favourite, besides winning the acclaim of the leading critics of the day. As she was wheeled in her stroller, Amrutha unfailingly asked her mother and grandmother to stop in front of the same home every day.
