BWW Q&A: Nick Westrate of THE WILD DUCK at Shakespeare Theatre Company
by Joshua Wright - Oct 16, 2025
Shakespeare Theatre Company will present Henrik Ibsen’s “The Wild Duck,” adapted by David Eldridge and directed by STC Artistic Director Simon Godwin, in association with Theatre for a New Audience.
BroadwayWorld is pulling together the concensus from the New York City critics and you can check out they are saying about the new play below! “They’d been disoriented, I’d say, by some things that had been going on with their mom. When you watch him onstage, you see passion and craft, not borrowed celebrity.
All the same, he does have that name – and a lifetime of proximity to big-name artists.
It is estimated that his net worth stands at around $3 million.
This substantial wealth is a testament to his talent and hard work in the industry.

Bernard 2, his world is shattering constantly. Born into acting royalty yet determined to make his own mark, Alex Hurt represents the perfect blend of inherited talent and hard-earned skill in today’s entertainment landscape.
A Hollywood Legacy: Meet Alexander Devon Hurt
Alexander Devon Hurt, commonly known as Alex Hurt, was born in 1983 to Academy Award-winning actor William Hurt and Sandra Jennings.
TV credits: “Bonding” (Netflix), “Billions,” “Super Pumped,” “Homeland” (Showtime), as well as network shows “Good Fight” and “New Amsterdam.” Emmy nomination for lead actor in a digital drama series for “The Rehearsal” (Not the one with Nathan Fielder). The COVID pandemic occasioned a move to Santa Fe, but, he says, “after my father passed I had a real desire to be close to family.” These days, he shares his father’s Portland home with his brothers, and spends part of the week teaching at a Waldorf school on Whidbey Island in Washington, where his children now live with their mother.
While filming a movie in Portland, he met Ted Rooney, founder of 21ten Theatre.
“He had a one-day part where he had a scene with my character, and we just started talking about geeky theater stuff: What’s the best play you ever did?
Off-Broadway: Continuity (MTC), Love, Love, Love (Roundabout), Placebo (Playwrights Horizons), Scenes from a Marriage (NYTW) as well Lincoln Center Theater, CSC, The New Group, and Cherry Lane. I thought he was going to open the door to all the secrets of acting I didn’t get at grad school. It’s to shed the self-serving way of looking at the world and to see things as they really are.
What was Alex’s journey to Broadway? I wanted to see into other people’s souls.
