Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden (September 16, 1856–February 16, 1931) was a Germanphotographer who worked mainly in Italy.

Von Gloeden generally made different kinds of photographs: The ones that garnered the most widespread attention in Europe and overseas were usually relatively chaste, featured clothes like togas and generally downplayed their homoerotic implications. His works are renowned for their emotive and sensual qualities, often featuring adolescent boys in classical poses.
Three of Wilhelm von Gloeden's most famous works are 'The Dancers', 'The Sisters', and 'The Golden Age of Sicilian Peasantry'.

Wilhelm von Gloeden was an influential photographer active during the late 19th century and early 20th century.

Early life
Wilhelm von Gloeden was self-invented. His well-known study of two young boys clinging to an Ionic column was published in The Studio (London) in June 1893 (above a nude study by Baron Corvo of Cecil Castle, cousin of Charles Kains Jackson), which brought his work to the notice of a wider public.[14][15]
In 1895, when his family's fortune was lost through the "Hammerstein affair", Gloeden received as a gift from his friend and patron the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, a large-format plate camera.
