Indeed, curlers in many countries benefited from Turnbull's expertise, including the Scots, when he was invited (by Richard Harding as I recall) to bring his curling clinic to Forest Hills and to Gogar Park.
He has coached and taught 17 world champions.
In 1981, Turnbull was chief umpire at the World Curling Championships. That's him above with Linda Moore. He was inducted into the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame (1992), Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame (2009), Canadian Curling Hall of Fame (1993), and World Curling Hall of Fame (2015).
He was made an honorary life member of the Manitoba Curling Association (1994).
He died at Winnipeg on 6 October 2017.

Born at Huntsville, Ontario on 19 July 1939, son of Raymond Turnbull and Evelyn Collister, in 1950 the family moved to Winnipeg where he attended General Steele School, Viscount Alexander School, River Heights School, and Kelvin High School.
He was named the all-star lead at both competitions.
Broadcasting
After his career ended, Turnbull and fellow curlers Wally Ursuliak and Don Duguid led dozens of clinics in Canada and Europe. In 1966, he established an insurance company, Ray Turnbull Limited which, in 1983, became Turnbull/ Whitaker Insurance, located in River Heights.
An active curler, in 1965 he played lead for Terry Braunstein and helped to win the Canadian Curling Championship.

The team would finish second to the United States in the World Curling Championships. In 1978, the Canadian team, skipped by Mike Chernoff with Ed Lukovich playing last stones, was beaten in the semifinals of the Silver Broom by a young Norwegian team, skipped by Kristian Soerum.

The team also placed second in the World Curling Championship. From 1985 to 2010, he was part of TSN's curling broadcast team.
