On an annual basis millions see his colorful mural, “The Visit,” above the American, Continental, and United Airlines ticket counters at the Austin International Airport. They pay tribute to the Mexican national holidays on September 16 and May 5 and to the men who established the Zaragoza park in 1931 to host Austin's first licensed fiestas for those days.

Abstract

Fidencio Durán is an award winning painter, muralist, and educator who is based out of Austin, Texas but also has collaborated on many projects throughout the state.

Hernadez, a University of Texas at El Paso [UTEP] graduate, recommended the border city campus to Duran. He exhibited across the state and was represented at different times by El Paso, Austin, and Houston galleries. Duran continues to paint daily and is valued for highlighting the history and cultural traditions of Tejanos. His artwork appears in public and private art collections in the United States and abroad.

The Commission designated La Esperanza, a home for girls, for the mural.

Lockhart was surrounded by cattle ranches and agricultural farms for much of the 20th century. After he graduated in 1984, he began working with the Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) and their Arts in Education program. One of his most prominent works, The Visit graces the length of the west ticket counter at Austin Bergstrom International Airport.

The following year Duran received funding from the Texas Commission of the Arts to paint a mural in Brownsville, Texas, a border city near the Gulf of Mexico. He was awarded the Clare Hart DeGolyer Memorial Fund Award in 1983, the Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund Award in 1990, and the Otis and Velma Davis Dozier Travel Grant in 1996. His Mexican American cultural heritage inspire much of his art.
